The Patient Story Team

The Patient Story is run by an expanding team of medical, editorial, and video professionals who are committed to sharing what life is actually like for cancer patients. We believe that sharing your story can be transformative both on a cultural and personal level. We are deeply committed to handling each patient’s story with care, compassion, and scientific backing.

As part of our editorial process, our multi-media team upholds the highest editorial and journalistic standards. Our work is medically researched, vetted, fact-checked, and reviewed. We operate with a team of experienced medical professionals who advise on the latest medical advances.

In addition to sharing patient stories, we offer extensive coverage of the latest cancer news and medical resources. If you have a question about symptoms, treatments, clinical trials, health insurance, finances, support groups, and beyond, we are here to offer guidance – in human terms.

There is plenty of cancer information across the web but The Patient Story offers trustworthy, timely, and comprehensive information for real-life patients. We work hard to understand the needs of both patients and medical professionals to advocate for positive change.

Stephanie Chuang, The Patient Story Founder

Patient Advocate & Founder

Stephanie Chuang is the founder of The Patient Story, born out of her own survival of cancer in 2017. The multi-channel platform features in-depth video and written stories of cancer patients, survivors, and medical experts to help newly-diagnosed patients and caregivers better understand and navigate life during and after treatment. 

Previously, Stephanie spent a decade in TV news as an Emmy-nominated journalist. She was last working at NBC Bay Area as a Special Projects and San Francisco-based reporter. Outside of work, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her husband and three kids who keep her on her toes!  

Jeff Forslund
Caregiver advocate, Marketing & Editorial

Jeff Forslund is Editorial Director for The Patient Story. With more than two decades of experience in digital storytelling, marketing, and research in health education, Jeff loves to bring patient voices to life through his work. Before joining The Patient Story, Jeff honed his skills in both patient and healthcare provider education, patient recruitment, and market research across hundreds of disease states. 

Jeff deeply understands the caregiver role having lost his mother to lung cancer the year his daughter was born. Seeing the advances over the past decade and focus on screening and early detection, he lives with a new hope that more lives will be saved and he can help do that through The Patient Story. He is driven by a deeply held belief in the transformative power of story and its ability to highlight all sides of the human condition, to bring people together, and to allow people to feel seen and heard in their experiences. 

Tory Midkiff - Channel Manager

Tory Midkiff is the Channel Manager and creative strategist for The Patient Story. With a background in video production, digital marketing, and YouTube strategy, Tory focuses on helping patient stories reach the people who need them most. She brings a deep understanding of audience behavior and platform dynamics to shape stories that connect and resonate. 

Tory is passionate about creating content that feels human, grounded, and emotionally honest. She believes that powerful storytelling can bridge the gap between clinical information and lived experience, helping viewers feel less alone in some of life’s hardest moments.

Taylor Scheib
Patient Advocate & Content Production Manager

Taylor’s love for people is at the core of who she is. It's a driving force that shapes her personal and professional life, fueling her passion for connecting with others and understanding their stories. As a former sports broadcaster, Taylor thrived on engaging with many different audiences, sharing stories that resonated beyond the field or court. This experience cultivated her innate ability to empathize and connect with people from all walks of life. 

Her commitment to building a community at The Patient Story is rooted in her genuine affection for people. She listens attentively to patients' stories, recognizing the power of each narrative to inspire, educate, and support others facing similar journeys. 

Taylor has been going through her own thyroid cancer diagnosis. Her mother Kelly is a colorectal cancer survivor as well. Navigating that part of life hasn’t been easy, but her own diagnosis and her mom’s fuels Taylor’s fire. In Taylor’s free time, she loves to go skiing and hiking with her husband and their chocolate lab, Sage. 

Amy Martiner
Caregiver Advocate & Relationships, Growth

Amy has been a caregiver advocate for almost 30 years, helping to create a patient-family advisory council at a major hospital. She also has more than 15 years of experience in healthcare, always focused on improving patients' lives. 

Her passion for family and patient-centered care grew out of personal experience with her disabled daughter, which ignited a deep commitment to advocate for those in need. Throughout her career, Amy has worked in various roles including patient engagement, business development, and client management. 

She lives in Philadelphia (go birds) and has 2 daughters, Abigail and Grace. And a cat named Kittums! 

Nikki Murphy

Nikki is a seasoned communicator with a passion for storytelling that has been honed through a dynamic career in TV news and public relations. With an instinct for finding compelling stories and a knack for bringing them to life, she has spent the past ten years crafting stories that resonate deeply with audiences. Whether it was in front of the camera or behind the scenes, she leveraged her expertise to help brands and individuals in various industries including the health sector communicate messages and human-interest stories. 

At The Patient Story she is excited to connect with patients and share their stories in hopes of educating and advocating for communities around the world facing cancer and various diseases. 

Nikki is based in Illinois and enjoys spending time with her husband and traveling. 

Nicholas Ayoub, YouTube Video Editor

Nicholas Ayoub is a YouTube video editor with eight years of experience crafting stories that connect with viewers and hold their attention. With a strong background in YouTube strategy and audience retention, Nicholas is passionate about shaping videos that are not only engaging, but meaningful—helping important stories reach the people who need to hear them most. 

His connection to this work is also deeply personal. Nicholas lost a close family friend to metastatic breast cancer after a 15-year fight, and he has also seen the impact of breast cancer in his own family through his aunt’s experience. Those experiences have given him a deep appreciation for stories of resilience, vulnerability, and hope, and they continue to drive his desire to help bring compassion, clarity, and humanity to every story he helps tell. 

Patient Voice Leaders

Michele Nadeem-Baker

Michele Nadeem-Baker has worked nationally as a broadcast journalist and globally as the chief of communications for well-known, publicly traded multi-billion-dollar corporations. Her chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) diagnosis changed her life but did not stop her.

Jeff Folloder

Jeff Folloder

Jeff Folloder is a blood cancer survivor. He was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in 2010 and sought treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

He is passionate about patient education and connecting with other patients to help them with resources and support for their condition. Jeff is an admin for the CLL Support Group on FaceBook. With over 15,000 members offering support and encouragement, this welcoming community is for those affected by Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma (SLL)

Nicky Greenhalgh

Nicky Greenhalgh

Nicky, diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma in 2014 at age 32, channeled her experience into advocacy and support for others. Following a year of treatment and adjustment, she founded the Facebook Community "Living with Follicular Lymphoma," which now supports over 12,000 members. Driven by a passion for patient advocacy, Nicky pursued and obtained a degree in clinical nutrition, specializing in oncology nutrition. Her expertise now aids patients in managing their health through tailored nutritional strategies, reflecting her commitment to improving the quality of life for those affected by cancer.

Jack Aiello

Jack Aiello
(in memoriam)

Jack Aiello, a Silicon Valley native, had a successful career in hi-tech companies before being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 1995. Despite facing numerous treatments and side effects, he achieved remission but went on medical disability. Jack dedicated his time to volunteering for International Myeloma Foundation, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

Jack worked tirelessly to educate and inform myeloma patients. We are honored and grateful to have worked with him in our connected missions to support the multiple myeloma community.

Chris has more than two decades of experience in the development and creative sectors as a writer and editor for print and digital publications, as well as a fundraiser and communications specialist. He joined the Patient Story team in 2024. He enjoys keeping aquarium fish and (lots of) cats, traveling, and cycling.

Katrina Villareal has been working in the web and print publishing industries since 2004. She has worked on a variety of publications, including lifestyle, technology, education, sports, health, and religion. She joined The Patient Story as copy editor in 2022.

Matt Romeo has been a content writer since 2017 and worked with the Patient Story since 2021. Matt has worked on a variety of content including mental health, alternative health, and financial wellness. In addition to writing, Matt has worked in the non-profit health industry since 2017.

Their insights help us present information thoughtfully and accurately with the patient perspective always at the heart of what we do.

Robyn L. Stacy-Humphries, MD

Dr. Robyn Stacy-Humphries
Board Certified Radiologist
3X DLBCL survivor

Dr. Robyn Stacy-Humphries is a practicing radiologist and Charlotte resident who was diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in 2011 at 43. As a physician herself, the diagnosis came as a shock even as she discovered an enlarged lymph node herself.

Over the next several years, Robyn underwent multiple rounds of treatment including R-CHOP chemotherapy, radiation, two stem cell transplants, and many other procedures. She experienced two relapses before finally achieving remission in 2016 after receiving CAR T-cell therapy.

Robyn's cancer journey included 6 years of treatment, 14 rounds of chemotherapy, 16 different drugs, multiple biopsies and surgeries. The aggressive treatments took a heavy physical and emotional toll, but Robyn remained determined and sought out integrative therapies like psychotherapy and acupuncture to support her through it.

Now cancer-free, Robyn appreciates her "second chance at life." She has become a patient advocate, running an online support group and sharing her experiences, hoping to help advance cutting-edge cancer treatments.

Dr. Sam

Dr. Samantha Siegel
Board Certified Internist

Dr. Samantha Siegel is a board certified internist, with experience in both hospital and clinic based medicine. When working as a hospitalist, she provided care for patients with serious health conditions, including many cancers and participated in advanced care planning and palliative discussions with patients and their families. In the clinic, Dr. Siegel enjoys counseling her patients on prevention and healthy lifestyle choices. Dr. Siegel has personally battled relapsed/refractory Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and underwent an autologous bone marrow transplant in the summer of 2022. She is currently in remission.

Mirza

Dr. Kamran M. Mirza
Hematopathologist

Dr. Mirza is a physician-scientist, medical educator, and hematopathologist. An award-winning mentor and teacher, Dr. Mirza has a demonstrated history of transforming pathology and laboratory medicine pedagogy. He is passionate about pathways to pathology and laboratory medicine, health equity, diversity and inclusion in medicine, and patients' understanding of their disease.
